Body Love Book Review: My Thoughts on a Higher Fat Diet

Working multiple jobs + being a graduate student makes for a jam packed schedule. I was in search of a new way to fuel my body so that I could be my best self. ENTER: BODY LOVE by Kelly LeVeque.

Y'ALL. This way of eating has truly changed the game for me. Kelly's book is pretty science-heavy (which I am interested in and appreciate). She goes into detail about what your blood sugar is and how to best regulate it so that your body is optimally using the food you eat as fuel rather than storing it as fat.

My purpose for picking this book up was mainly to find a way to approach food that didn't require much thought, energy, or tracking.

Backstory: I am a personal trainer and have been a pretty strict macro counter for the last few years. Before that I "intuitively" ate and tried to stick to whole, "clean" foods. I realized that when I started tracking macros, I strayed away from filling my body with whole, real foods, and was starting to eat more processed junk "because it fit my macros."

I lost weight and got shredded, sure, but I felt like a trash can on the inside. I wasn't sleeping well. I was cranky. I didn't have energy to be my best. My skin wasn't glowing.

Kelly's "Fab Four" method has been such a huge, positive change for me over the last almost 2 weeks. I know 2 weeks doesn't sound long enough to give an opinion on something, BUT I know my body and I know that I feel SO MUCH BETTER.

I also know that I haven't felt like a slave to food, which is a big deal for me. I am making (and craving) healthier choices. My skin is in better shape and my sleep...y'all, MY SLEEP IS SO GOOD. That alone is enough reason for me to continue eating this way.

I've incorporated a lot of healthy fats in my diet and I get most of my carbs from veggies. Here's a quick peek at some of my fave meals:

And something I whipped up myself with the FAB FOUR in mind:

So what is the Fab Four? PROTEIN + FAT + FIBER + GREENS.

I start each morning with a #FabFourSmoothie that keeps me full through lunch time. Today I had a banana nut muffin inspired smoothie and yesterday was all about that chocolate peanut butter bliss.

Her book is FILLED with recipes that legit take hardly any time/prep (and I am NOT a cook) and taste fabulous. They keep me full and sustained.

I'm so happy that my thoughts don't revolve around food anymore. I eat 3 meals a day that keep me full and my mind sharp. I don't have to panic about making food choices that will "derail" me. I eat foods that truly fuel my body and help me live my best life. I don't have to pack snacks to take everywhere.

I'm very apprehensive when it comes to "diet" books but I'm so glad that I gave this one a chance. I heard Kelly on a few podcasts and her knowledge + passion for health and nutrition is what drove me to give this book a try. She has a way of explaining science in a way that is relatable and understandable.

If you're looking for FOOD FREEDOM, I would totally recommend giving Kelly's book a try. I got my copy on Amazon. Click here to get your own copy (note: this is an Amazon affiliate link).
