5 Ways to Practice Self-Love

Since tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and love is in the air, I thought it would be fun to put a little twist on things and chat about SELF-LOVE! 💛 I know the phrase “self-love” is trendy or whatever right now but I’m all about it. If you follow me over on IG, you know that I am a big believer that you can’t pour from an empty cup!

You have to intentionally love yourself well so you can show up and love other people well, you know?

I put together 5 of my favorite ways to practice self-love for today’s post! And let me just tell y’all…it was SO TOUGH to narrow it down to just 5. I’m kind of a self-love….lover? lol.

Anyway, let’s get to it!

#1 Take a nap.

Okay…hear me out on this one. I used to be one of those people who said, '“I don’t need naps.” Sure, I probably don’t NEED one usually, but if I’m feeling a brain fog coming on or I’m totally exhausted and it’s still early afternoon, I will 100% lay down for a 20-minute power nap. I’m trying to get better about tuning into what my body needs and honoring that. And sometimes my body needs rest!

#2 Take a bath.

Mmm there is nothing more relaxing to me than a warm bath…especially if a bath bomb is involved. I love popping a fun bath bomb in the water (my favorite one disperses rose petals in your bath…it’s from LUSH), grabbing a good book, and just soaking for a few minutes. I don’t let myself bring my phone or iPad with me because I want to truly disconnect. My mind links baths to relaxation since I’ve established that connection by making sure to create a relaxing atmosphere when I take baths.

#3 Put on your favorite outfit.

This one is so simple but I feel like it makes such a big difference in how I feel. If I’m feeling down or just have negative energy going on, I like to put on one of my favorite outfits (let’s talk about this sunshiny yellow dress that I got from Well-Liked Vintage) and spend some time doing my hair + make-up. I don’t think it’s vain to say that when you look good, you feel good. I know it’s true for me. Part of loving yourself well is figuring out what makes YOU feel loved and putting on a pretty yellow dress does it for me!

#4 Make a healthy snack.

You guys…I love snacks. Like LOVE THEM. But not just any snacks…I love snacks that taste good AND make me feel good. Now don’t get me wrong, sometimes ya girl needs to go ham on a pint of ice cream but most of the time, when I’m needing an extra boost of self-love, I opt for making myself a healthy snack. My current go-to is avocado toast with a side of strawberries. Savory + sweet, yes please!

#5 Get creative.

The sky is the limit here, people! Creativity comes in many shapes + sizes and they are all wonderful. I think it’s so important to allow yourself the opportunity to be creative without an agenda sometimes. My job requires me to be creative but sometimes I just need to sit down with my iPad and doodle to doodle…without worrying about what is going to come out. Some other ways that I like to get creative are taking care of my plants and writing. Maybe you like sewing, songwriting, or baking. Whatever makes your creativity come alive…DO MORE OF IT!
