3 Tips for Taking Care of Fiddle Leaf Figs
It seems like everyone and their mama, including myself, has at least one fiddle leaf fig gracing the presence of their home! And rightfully so because they are just so dang beautiful (and Instagrammable - let’s be real, lol).
It also seems like a lot of people have trouble making sure that their fiddle is thriving. In my experience, they are finicky plants that require very specific attention to maintain their health.
When I first got my fiddles, oh y’all. The poor babes. They went from looking perky and green to wilted and sad within 3 weeks. Seriously.
Little disclaimer here: I AM NOT A PLANT EXPERT. I repeat, I AM NOT A PLANT EXPERT.
But over the years, I’ve managed to figure out how to keep my fiddles happy so I wanted to share what I’ve been doing to accomplish that.
Here are 3 things I’ve done consistently that I believe have really helped my fiddles grow and thrive:
KEEP THE SOIL MOIST.
But not TOO moist. And definitely not too dry. I water mine once a week and I make sure to never overwater. The way I check to make sure the soil is happy: I stick my finger in it and make sure it’s damp.GIVE THEM ENOUGH LIGHT.
The fastest way I’ve killed my fiddles is by keeping them from getting the sunshine that they want. I’ve made the mistake of keeping them tucked in corners of the room that don’t have a window nearby and it kind of upsets them. The leaves turn brown and start to get crispy.
As soon as I started keeping them in front of windows, the game changed. The windows that I keep my fiddles near get a good amount of sun throughout the day.
When I moved them to sunshiney windows, I noticed new leaves sprouting on the regular. Give those fiddle babies some light!USE THIS MAGICAL PLANT SPRAY.
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that I am an avid Young Living Essential Oils lover. I use oils for all the things at my house. Including my plant care. I got this recipe from my friend and tweaked it just a tad. I spray my fiddles with this stuff once a week and then wipe off their leaves with a lightly damp paper towel.
I didn’t know that cleaning the leaves actually helped them absorb what they need from the sun better! Wiping down the leaves also makes sure to keep them looking their best. Learned this tip from the gal who I linked above…she’s a plant queen!
