My Secret to Beat Burnout, Overwhelm, and Exhaustion

 

If burnout, overwhelm, and exhaustion are your norm, I’ve got good news for you: that is NOT how you were created to live!


In 2017, I found myself at mental rock bottom when I felt completely burnt out trying to juggle 3 jobs, working to earn my master’s degree in speech-language pathology (internships every semester included), and still trying to show up as a present wife and friend.


I felt like I was dropping the ball in all areas of my life. When I was in class, I was thinking about how I was letting my loved ones down because I was always exhausted (and irritable, yikes). When I was with my loved ones, I was thinking about how much I still had left on my to-do list.

In 2018, I spent lots of time digging deep, doing a lot of heart and mindset work. 

Organization and time management have always been things that come naturally to me (doesn’t hurt that I also have a B.A. in public relations) so I was determined to create a system - a lifestyle - that allowed me to get the important stuff done without sacrificing my mental health + relationships.

Once I figured out that it is possible to work toward my dreams AND show up for my life and the people in it, I knew that I could not keep what I was learning to myself.

The world needed to know the 5 Keys to Hustling Sanely. So if you find yourself feeling anxious, overwhelmed, burnt out, or bogged down by your to-do list most days, you are in the right place, babe!


Let me introduce you to something I like to call The 5 Keys to Hustling Sanely. Hustling Sanely is an overall wellness approach to living a peacefully productive life.


Okay, so what are the five things?!

You might be asking, “Okay, I kinda follow, but what is Hustle Sanely 5?” Hustle Sanely 5 (HS5) is a list of 5 intentional things that the Hustle Sanely community does every day to help us work toward our dreams without sacrificing our mental health + relationships:

You might look at this list and think, okay well that seems pretty basic right? But I want to talk to you for a second about the hustle culture and how it negatively affected my life.


One thing that I used to struggle with when I was living in a state of unhealthy hustle, was letting the important relationships in my life fall to the wayside for the sake of making my dreams happen. 


It actually hurts my heart to think about how I wasn’t present in my friendships and family relationships in the name of “making my dreams happen.” I used to think that it was fine to neglect relationships for the sake of hustling because once I “reached my goal” I’d then make it a priority to show up for my people.



Well a couple things there:

01. We never really finish reaching our goals. Because one goal turns into a new goal which births another new goal and so on. Making your dreams happen really is a journey more than a destination.

02. We are not promised tomorrow. We hear that all the time but let the reality of it sink in for a moment. You are blessed each new day that you wake up and take a breath. And the same goes for the people in your life you care about. Don’t take that for granted. We have to make our relationships a priority while we are going after our dreams. That’s why “Say or do one kind thing for someone else” made it onto HS5. It makes sure that we are pouring into our people and it’s a good way to spread kindness regularly.


I know those are two hard pills to swallow, but it’s the hard truth. And it is two of the mindset shifts that I needed to have in order to start showing up for my life and my people again.


Now I can go on forever and go into detail about every single key to hustling sanely, and how they have changed my life.
