  • What the Hustle Sanely S.W.I.T.C.H. Goal Mapping Method is and why you should use it when setting your goals

This blog post is a part of our Best Year Ever Workshop! If you haven’t read last week’s blog post (or listened to the podcast episode), make sure to do that before you read this one because content builds off each other and we don’t want you to feel lost! 🤗

Okay, so the word “vision” can be daunting to some people so start by breaking that down! What does it mean to “get clear on your vision”?

It means knowing how you want to show up for your days.

Knowing what your values are.
Knowing what you want your life to look and feel like.
Knowing what goals you’re working toward.

If you don’t know what you’re working toward or what kind of life you desire, then how do you expect to live it out?

A clear vision of what you want your life to be is your map. If you don’t have clarity, you’ll wander around aimlessly, going through the motions of life without intention. People often feel overwhelmed by life because they lack clarity and they’re just winging it every day. Knowing what you’re working toward gives you a sense of purpose every day.

When we’re clear on our vision, we know what matters most to us in each season and that positions us to spend our time and energy on our actual priorities.

Notice I said in each season – it’s normal for your vision to shift as your season does. As your life changes, so will your desires. Your values will typically remain the same but how you live them out will look different depending on what season you’re in.

To sum it up, you cannot accomplish what you don’t establish so that’s why we’re gonna work on getting clear on your vision!

There are 3 parts to getting clear on your vision:

+ Vision Reflection: to help you assess what your life is currently like
+ Vision Planning: to help you plan what you want your life to look like
+ Goal Setting: to help you take steps to bridge the gap between the two.

Surprise, surprise, there are exercises woven throughout the Peacefully Productive Planners to help you with all 3 parts of getting clear on your vision! There are 4 places in your planner we’re going to be looking at to help you get clear on your vision:

01: 2025 Goal Setting + Scheduling

Toward the beginning of your planner, right after the 2024 Reflection is a page for you to write down your goals for the year.

There are 12 spaces for you to write out your goals for 2025 and next to each spot is a section for you to write when you plan to pursue it (you can write the specific month if you already know or the quarter if you’re not sure about the exact month yet).

As you craft your goals for the year, I encourage you not to just pull things out of thin air. Think about the exercise you did as part of your reflection – the one where you had to write down what was working well and what needed to change, and 1-3 intentions for each life category (personal well-being (mental health, hobbies, self-care, etc.), relationships (partner, family, friends, etc.), physical health (exercise, sleep, nutrition, etc.), vocation (career, education, life mission, etc.), and spaces (house, office, vehicle, etc.))

The intentions part can be habits you want to create/maintain or goals you want to work toward for that category.

As you are filling out the chart in your planner with your goals and when you plan to pursue them (aka scheduling your goals), be mindful of what you have going on in your life during each season as you schedule your goals. Strategically scheduling your goals is just as important as creating them. When we schedule our goals, we can pace ourselves and make sure that we enjoy the process of pursuing each goal and don’t feel spread too thin.

And another thing here – don’t feel pressured to fill out all 12 goal spaces at once if that feels overwhelming. Try planning out just your quarter 1 goals if that feels better for you. It’s okay to have a few meaningful goals at the start of the year and add more as the year goes on.

There isn’t a “magic number” of yearly goals. Maybe you have 1, maybe you have 5, maybe you have 36. You are the only one who knows your capacity so don’t try to fit yourself into a box that doesn’t make sense for you.

02: Vision Board

Right next to your 2025 goal page is a blank page for you to craft your vision board on!

I have a very specific format for how I like to create my vision boards that works best for my brain. I’ll share it with you quickly:

+ I put my yearly word in the middle (more on that in a little bit) with a scripture that I want to stand on throughout the year.

+ My 3 personal value statements go in the top left corner.

+ Then all around my yearly word in the middle, I have my goal categories listed with bullet points of my actual goals. Seeing the goals broken up into categories helps me – I’m a words person so I like to be able to read my goals on my vision board, not just see pictures related to my goals.

Speaking of pictures, that’s the last part of my vision board:

+ I have photos on the board from my own life (not just things I find on Pinterest) because I feel way more connected to seeing a photo of something that’s relevant to me/reminds me what I’m working toward and why.

I review my vision board every morning as a part of my mental health hygiene routine.

If you feel lost when it comes to creating a vision board, I have 2 resources for you (one free and one paid):

Podcast episode: 156: How to Make a Vision Board
In this episode, I walk you through the format I just shared in more detail.

– Vision Board Template:
This is a $7 editable Canva template that you can buy in the shop that comes with a video walking you through how to use it. It follows the same format I just shared.

You could also make your vision board digitally in Canva and then print it out to tape or glue in your planner!

03: Yearly Word

In the very front of your planner, on the title page, there is a spot for you to write your word of the year! I’ve been choosing a word of the year since 2016 and I love it because it gives me kind of like an anchor or a theme for the year. It gives me something to come back to if I’m feeling scattered.

I use my goals for the year to help me come up with my word. I ask myself two questions:

01. Are there any themes or patterns in these goals?

02. How do I want to feel working toward the goals?

Those questions usually help me choose a word!

Some of my past words:
2016: DO
2017: SAVOR
2018: INTENTIONAL
2019: ABUNDANCE
2020: SURRENDER
2021: NURTURE
2022: EXPANSION
2023: LIMITLESS
2024: FLOURISH

04: Hustle Sanely S.W.I.T.C.H. Goal Mapping Method

So technically these pages aren’t part of your Yearly Vision Meeting or Quarter 1 Check-In Meeting but I wanted to mention them so that you knew that they’re available and that you feel equipped to use them!

When it comes to pursuing your goals the Hustle Sanely way, we use the Hustle Sanely S.W.I.T.C.H. Goal Mapping Method. It’s an acronym:

Specific
Why attached
Impact-driven
Timeline-based
Check-in meetings scheduled
Habits & routines to support you

Writing your goals using the Hustle Sanely S.W.I.T.C.H. Goal Mapping Method helps you focus on who you’re becoming as you work toward your goals. This method positions you to take major and meaningful action while prioritizing your mental health and relationships!

Toward the beginning of your planner, behind the 5 Keys tab, there is a spread that walks you through how to use the Hustle Sanely S.W.I.T.C.H. Goal Mapping Method and there is an example of how to use it with an actual goal – because I know we love a concrete exmaple around here.

Behind each monthly tab in the PPP, there is a blank Hustle Sanely S.W.I.T.C.H. Goal Mapping Method page so you can take one of your goals and create a detailed plan to make it happen.

There’s actually an entire podcast episode on the show about how to use the Hustle Sanely S.W.I.T.C.H. Goal Mapping Method if you want to listen to it here!

If you’re vibing with this and really enjoying learning about stuff like getting your mindset right and getting clear on your vision and feel like you want to really dig into learning the entire Hustle Sanely Planning System comprehensively, you 100% need to be in The Hustle Sanely Lifestyle course.

It’s the only place where I teach The Hustle Sanely Planning System inside and out – over 250 women have gone through it and I have no doubt that you’ll be on your way to living a peacefully productive life after you enroll – I have the course broken up into 3 parts: Learn The Hustle Sanely Planning System (where I teach you what the system is and how it works), See The Hustle Sanely Planning System (where I show you the system in action in my own life), Do The Hustle Sanely Planning System (where you complete guided exercises to implement the system in your own life).
